Introducing our inaugural Main collection, Start From Zero.

Start From Zero is perhaps the perfect place to start curating your conscious closet. We created our inaugural eight-piece collection to satisfy what we, with our many years in fashion and our passion for sustainable fashion, believe will be your core wardrobe essentials.

“Start From Zero expresses my vast experience as a stylist working around the world with inspiring women,” says Denise Ho, Fashion Director of The R Collective and the collection’s creative force. “Busy women must own their clothes and their conscience. I was inspired to create this collection for conscious women who wish to dress with style, without sacrificing their ethical values.”

Start From Zero draws from Denise’s no-nonsense approach to fashion and builds on The R Collective’s core values of extending the lifespan of clothing using rescued luxury fabrics that we reuse through upcycling, reimagining the destiny of textile waste through timeless designs and seasonless fabrications that enable modern women to love and wear essential wardrobe pieces for years to come.

The collection features the Calabash Dress, inspired by the kimono, the Clementine Shirt reinvented in upcycled satin georgette with flattering draping and the Cayce Jacket, cut using waste-reducing design techniques from beautiful upcycled raffia, offering a relaxed fit for effortless layering day to evening. Style easy care separates like the Donovan Tank and Dili Tee with your existing wardrobe pieces. We styled every piece from the collection with our stylist’s own pieces to show you how easy you can mix and match with your own wardrobe.

“My goal is to create desirable and sustainable pieces that can easily be worn and taken around the world, with light, easy-care and travel-friendly fabrics and designs that can be mixed and matched, readily styled from day to night,” explains Denise.

Start From Zero was created using luxury mills’ waste from Japan and Italy. It was designed using waste-reducing techniques, whereby surplus off-cuts are cleverly incorporated into the design to create contrast trims and subtle design details, which decrease wastage on the cutting room floor. In keeping with our belief that fashion can be a force for good, it was cut and sewn by a Hong Kong social enterprise. Our lovely pattern cutter and seamstress, Sandy Ng crafted each piece approving every final stitch before it made its way to our warehouse in Hong Kong.

Our first Main Collection complements the capsules that we will continue creating in collaboration with emerging sustainable fashion designers from around the world. Their capsules will have pops of their individual design flares, using incredible waste sources, which can continue to be styled alongside our Main Collections.

We are not saying rush out and buy more clothes or that any of you actually really need this collection. But for those of you opting for slow fashion, who would like to build a versatile, comfortable and durable closet, Start From Zero forms the building blocks for a conscious closet. We know there are women who enjoy clothes and who want to do so sustainably. If this is you, well, then we believe The R Collective is for you.
